FAQs

  • This nursing continuing professional development activity, for Ultrasound Guided Peripheral IV placement Course and PICC/Midline Course, was approved by American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

  • USGPIV: Ultrasound Guided Peripheral IV
This is the act of using the Ultrasound Linear probe to visualize the vein and nearby structures. After analyzing and planning, a decision is made as to which IV is best suited for this scenario.

  • PICC: Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter.
This is a high quality catheter that starts from the inner upper arm and terminates in the Cavoatrial junction or Superior Vena Cava. There appears to be significant confusion among the staff regarding how to properly care for and maintain this particular type of line. This course will provide essential knowledge, covering topics from patient analysis to the proper insertion of a PICC line. It will also emphasize the importance of care and maintenance.

  • A midline is a high quality extra-long Peripheral IV that utilizes the upper arm veins and terminates prior to the Axilla. Not to be confused with PICC lines in use, however insertion is similar.
